EXCUSE ME!!!!!! My eyes are up here!!!!!! HELLO!!!!!!!???
Okay now that I have your attention, I am going to ask you some questions.
Has this ever happened to you?
Have you ever had to work hard to get people to take you seriously just because you are a girl?
I have. This is one reason why feminism is important. Equality between men and women is important. Ever heard the expression "just sit there and look pretty"? This has been told to me my entire life. That is all that people have expected of me. Even my family members. I am not supposed to be good at math or science, or even school in general. I am supposed to be silent and look good. This is NOT equality. This is a gender role that has been for women for a very long time. I for one, do not like it. If you knew me, you would know that I get really good grades, I work really hard, and I stand up for what I believe in. I am a strong woman and I am outspoken. You know what some people call that? Bitch. An outspoken girl must be a bitch, right? No, that isn't fair. A guy can speak his mind and he is intelligent, a girl speaks her mind and she is a bitch. That seems equal right? Well I don't think so. That's why we still need feminism.
Alright, it's question time again.
Have you ever experienced a random guy slap your
butt?
I have, multiple times, and let me tell you, it was not fun, nor
enjoyable! Tell me why some guys feel like they have the right to touch a woman’s
body whenever, and wherever they want?? I’ll tell you why, because those guys
view the women as if the women are less than them. I do realize that males can
also experience sexual harassment, but I know females experience it more. Again, this is why we still need feminism.
Love the idea. I have the problem that guys are intimidated by the fact that I am attractive and actually know more than most of them even on subjects like hunting or fishing. Everytime I actually open my mouth and show that I am intelligent guys just run. Why do I have to be stupid and quiet to get a date? How equal is that?
ReplyDeleteI can definitely relate to this article. Last year I was in a conducting symposium and every year the band votes on their favorite student conductor. I was sure it was going to be my friend who had done a seriously amazing job, but the professor announced my name instead. I looked at the band with gratitiude and confussion because I thought my friend did better than me. Regardless I was so excited, and was talking to another friend of mine about it. They proceeded to tell me that "[I] was the hot one, and I wore a pencil skirt the day they voted". Talk about a bummer. I hated being voted on for my appearence instead of my ability.
ReplyDeleteAWWW Brittany I didn't know that.... I'm sorry :'(
DeleteLuckily, I come from a family of strong, intelligent wom en who have all married men who loved them for their brains. My father always told me I could do anything I wanted to do with my life, and my brother never thought I was any less intelligent than him just because of my gender, so you could imagine my shock when one of my first boyfriends told me I was less intelligent than him simply because women aren't as smart as men (After he said this it wasn't long till he was my EX boyfriend.) I simply cannot tolerate this type of sexism! I am a women, yes, but that should not mean that I am less intelligent! Feminism IS needed! Love the blog!
ReplyDeleteI agree with ALL of what is being said. I cannot relate to any random butt slapping, but I do feel that I drive guys away because I am a lot smarter than a lot of them. I also think guys don't nerdy girls. I am a huge bassoon geek, and I breed basset hounds, so I know a lot about dogs. With this in mind talking about sex opening doesn't bother me because I take it from a scientific approach. I love the emotion that's running through your posts!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on this!!! I have had a random dude slap me in inappropriate areas too, and I believe that the do it because they think they are superior and as if we are truly a piece of property without a name on it. It discusses me how men act like animals in today's society. Will this world ever encounter a normal dude? Meaning "sex" is not the only thing that runs through their tiny little brains. I think not
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the butt slapping thing, that's more of a turn off. The sad thing is that guys don't typically see it that way. Let's use your blog to slap some sense into guys!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on all of this. The idea that women are there as objects for men to enjoy is disgusting and it makes me sick to know that it happens so often. The butt slapping thing is particularly upsetting. To me, that's so incredibly not okay, that I want to punch anyone who has ever done it in the face. Feminism is necessary, specifically the respect that comes with it. Equality is necessary and I believe we all deserve it. Great post, Brandey.
ReplyDeleteCould not of said it before myself, I hate the fact that so men think that women need to be a the perfect ideal object for them. It makes me sad because I know even some women believe this too.
