“You aren’t going to become one of those crazy feminists are you?"

One of my friends asked me this question when I told him I was taking a women’s studies class.

Before I say anymore about this story I just wanted to say WELCOME to my blog! Fair warning, this is my very first blog post!

Now back to the story…

At first I told him no of course not! I didn’t really think anything of it, until one day when I was sitting in class, and my professor was telling us what feminism really means. She told us that feminists strive for the equality of men and women.
That day in class forever opened my eyes to the world of feminism. After this class, I approached my friend who asked me the question and told him, yes I am one of those feminists but it simply means I want to be equal to a man. He may not have understood what I mean at first, but I was proud to say I am a feminist.
When I say I am a feminist I do NOT mean I am a man-hater! That is a common stereotype of feminism. Feminism is also not about burning bras! Another stereotype of feminists is that they are all lesbians. That is not true either. I am happily engaged and have a healthy, equal, relationship.
If there is anything you take away from my blog, I would like it to be Feminism is about equality.

HAPPY BLOGGING!

  1. I enjoyed your post. I like that the topic of it aims to educate the audience with a personal style of writing. This is also something I am doing with mt blog and I think you are doing it well. It is important that people understand the real meanings of yhings by learning rather than the assumed meanings. I look forward to more of your blogs!

  2. It's funny how as a woman we feel as though we have to explain equality but men never do. They ignore the fact that gender equality is still a struggle because it doesn't affect them as much. I am a budding feminist and I am proud to be a woman. Thanks for letting you friend know that we aren't burning our bras.

  3. Your post is different and that's what makes it special, because people usually don't speak on feminist and how they feel about the equality between men and women. I honestly believe that women should be equal to men, because we're both human the only thing that make us different is what God gave us to separate us from being a man and being a woman. I love hearing information like this, because the greatest woman I know in life is my mother, and knowing that this is about her, because it deals with women makes it interesting to me.

  4. I Like how your post is short quick and to the point. I'm glad you defined feminist because I use to believe it meant that its all about woman power. Your blog tells the real meaning which is equality between men and woman. If this is the case I'm a man but I am also a feminist because I believe woman should have the same equal rights as men and be treated fairly. If your a man and u don't feel this way think one day your going to married and have kids. I'm sure you want your wife and daughter to have equal rights as a man!!! Great post very interesting. Check out my blog on Childhood Obesity!!!

  5. I love how you introduce us to your blog in the middle of an interesting story to get us to keep reading, and that you write in the first peron. I think your approachable style will help those who think this will be a 'crazy feminist' blog. I'll be interested to see what stories and thoughts you have about this topic. Do you intend to continue it after finals?
