One of my friends asked me this question when I told
him I was taking a women’s studies class.
Before I say anymore about this story I just wanted
to say WELCOME to my blog! Fair warning, this is my very first blog post!
Now back to the story…
At first I told him no of course not! I didn’t
really think anything of it, until one day when I was sitting in class, and my
professor was telling us what feminism really means. She told us that feminists
strive for the equality of men and women.
That day in class
forever opened my eyes to the world of feminism. After this class, I approached
my friend who asked me the question and told him, yes I am one of those feminists
but it simply means I want to be equal to a man. He may not have understood
what I mean at first, but I was proud to say I am a feminist.
When I say I am a
feminist I do NOT mean I am a man-hater! That is a common stereotype of
feminism. Feminism is also not about burning bras! Another stereotype of
feminists is that they are all lesbians. That is not true either. I am happily engaged and have a healthy, equal, relationship.
If there is anything you take away from my blog, I would like it to be Feminism is about equality.HAPPY BLOGGING!
